映画「アテナ」の冒頭は、カリムという若者が弟を警察に殺され、その怒りを暴動で発散するシーンから始まります。カリムの爆発した怒りの勢いそのままに、警察署に突入してからアジトに戻るまでの11分間を、ノーカットで描きます。
このノーカット映像は、まるで観客がカリムの肩に乗って一緒に暴動に参加しているかのような臨場感を与えます。フランス・パリ郊外における人種差別の現実を、圧倒的なリアリティで私たちは体験することができるのです。
The film “Athena” opens with a young man named Karim venting his anger at the murder of his brother by the police in a riot. The film depicts the eleven minutes of Karim’s outburst of anger, from his raid on the police station to his return to his hideout, uncensored.
This uncut footage gives the audience a realistic feeling as if they are riding on Karim’s shoulders and participating in the riot with him. We are able to experience the reality of racism in the suburbs of Paris, France, with overwhelming reality.
