遠いむかし森に雷が落ち、木々が燃えだした。逃げ惑う猿たちの中で、火に近づいていく一匹の猿がいた。周りの猿たちは危ないからやめるように言ったが、その猿は火のついた枝を拾い上げた。
もちろんその猿も火が怖かったが、それ以上に面白そうだと思った。これがあれば、新しい生活がはじまる予感がした。それから数百万年、常識を超えていった猿は人間となり、周りで怖がっていた猿たちはまだ木の上にいる。
